Urban planner Weiming Lu integrates technology in traditional Chinese calligraphy. Weiming’s study of the ancient art inspires his process with computers, in search of a new brush spirit and bringing together the East and West. Weiming came to Minnesota in 1953, received his Masters Degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Minnesota and pursued his passion for urban planning for the next several decades. In the 1960’s, Weiming developed a city plan in Minneapolis that led to important legislation throughout the Minnesota to restore its warehouses. And later, as president of the Lowertown Redevelopment Corporation, he led the work to build Saint Paul’s arts district. Lu’s accomplishments are recognized internationally. A member of the Committee of 100, Weiming is committed to strengthening Chinese American relations. He lectures and exhibits his art internationally.
