Twin Cities PBS Presents Eighth Season of "MN Original"

New Episodes of the Emmy® Award-Winning Local Arts Series Premiere in 2017

Saint Paul, Minn. (UPDATED Dec. 13, 2016) – On Sunday, January 22 at 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., Twin Cities PBS (TPT) will premiere the eighth season of “MN Original,” the award-winning weekly arts and cultural series celebrating Minnesota artists.

More than 50 all-new, vibrant and diverse stories of Minnesota artists make up 12 new episodes. The premiere includes Instagram photographer Eric Mueller, poet and transgender advocate Andrea Jenkins and hip-hop musician Prof.

Also featured on “MN Original” in 2017: photographer Eric Willam Carroll, singer/songwriter Aby Wolf, children’s author and illustrator Michael Hall, the Hmong Breakers Leadership Council, visual artist Dyani White Hawk, jazz drummer Davu Seru, skateboard artist Mark Rivard, chamber ensemble Accordo and more.

In season eight, “MN Original” and TPT continue their successful partnership with McNally Smith College of Music in which students are invited to contribute original compositions to the series’ music library.

“We are thrilled to present this new season of ‘MN Original’” says Executive Producer Ashleigh Rowe. “This collection of compelling stories and exciting performance pieces reflects the depth of creative expression in and connects us to our local arts communities.”

“MN Original” is now broadcast on PBS stations across the country through American Public Television (APT). Millions of households have the opportunity to discover artists and the creative work happening in Minnesota.

Also new in 2017, “MN Original” will be premiering a new website which will be fully integrated into the new TPT.org website. Users will experience greater search functionality for streaming MN Original’s digital library with hundreds of local artists stories.

“MN Original” documents and promotes the diversity of the arts and culture in our state. “MN Original” has featured thousands of artists in more than 170 programs since its premiere on TPT in 2010. The series has been recognized with nearly 40 Upper Midwest Regional Emmy® Awards, including seven in 2016 for excellence in television production.

“MN Original” airs Sundays at 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on TPT 2, Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. on TPT LIFE and Mondays at 7:00 p.m. on TPT MN.
