Mathematician Quits Her Day Job to Start a Dance Company

March 16, 2018

By Brittany Shrimpton | MN Original Producer

Fulfilling a lifelong dream, Karen L. Charles quit her day job as a mathematician and arts administrator to start a dance company, Threads Dance Project, in 2011. Charles often uses mathematical and scientific theories as inspiration in her work, as evidenced in her work Uncertain Realities. Her company was honored to co-host and present work by the 2017 McKnight International Choreographer, Salia Sanou of Burkina Faso and France in the fall of 2017. This honor gave the company and Charles an opportunity to expand their horizons and connect through the powerful medium of movement.
